U.S. Veteran

William L. “Bill” Gillis, 69, of Monticello, passed away on May 29, 2012 at Carle Hospital, Urbana. Bill was born on May 13, 1943 in Casey, IL, the son of Leon and Lena (Volk) Gillis. He married Cheryl L. Ruffner on September 15, 1967 in Casey, IL. Surviving are his sons; Rob Gillis of Olney and Joe Gillis of Monticello, mother; Lena Gillis of Casey, 4 grandchildren, brother; Bob Gillis of Hammond, IN and sister; Patty Veach of Casey, IL. Bill was preceded in death by his wife and father. Bill retired from Marathon Pipe Line and served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a member of the Monticello Golf Club and enjoyed listening to Patsy Kline music. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, June 3, 2012, at the Monticello Township Cemetery. No visitation. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello is handling the arrangements.
